Resident Artist: Gotts Street Park

Just because there are new ways of doing something doesn't necessarily mean they’re better. I’m that respect, Gotts Street Park are a proud bunch of throwbacks. The Leeds-based trio – Josh Crocker (bass, production), Tom Henry (keys) and Joe Harris (guitar) – tastes are diverse: from north Indian classical to experimental-jazz, soul to alternative hip-hop but their vision is united: “The idea of doing things live in one room has always been important,”

"Our identity evolved from that.”
GSP set up their own studio in a shared house in a tough (but, crucially, affordable) corner of west Leeds, Armley.

The past few years have been busier than ever – they’re now based out of an old mill studio on the opposite side of the city. Releasing GSP volumes featuring an impressive raft of vocalists – all women – from established names to fresh talent, including Rosie Lowe and Pip Millet, alongside instrumental songs loosely informed by their favourite movie soundtracks.

Ideas, guests and songs are still circulating ahead of the release of a debut album, at some point. Gotts Street Park’s work serves as a timely reminder that there’s
really no substitute for being together.
